UK’s reCUP recyclable paper cup with EarthCoating, has been recognized as fully recyclable by achieving the coveted “Category A Recyclable” certification per The Green Dot (Der Grune Punkt) recycling standards.

Smart Planet Technologies’ reCUP® has achieved AAA rating for recyclability from The Green Dot (Der Grune Punkt) scheme.
Last year the company’s EarthCoating technology was certified with Green Dot A rating recyclability certification.
Now the technology has achieved category AAA Recyclable certification from the Green Dot (Der Grune Punkt) recycling standard – in what it describes as ‘an unparalleled achievement’ in sustainability.
The Green Dot recognises standards for recyclability claims in 31 countries including the UK and Ireland.
This certification for paper cups with EarthCoating is compliant with the Packaging Recovery Organisation Europe “PRO” program per EU Directive 94/62.
In addition, the paper cups are classified for recycling compatibility and collection streams alongside premium uncoated paper grades such as office paper.

With the acquisition Huhtamaki improves its access to the growing market of short run custom-printed cups and boosts its on-line commercial activity. The short run capability also allows Huhtamaki to even better support its current customers' promotional activities.
While the Environmental Audit Committee (EAC) has appeared to rule out a ‘latte levy’ for the time being, Terry Fox, chief executive of Cup Print, said the government is expecting operators to embrace the opportunity to change by switching to sustainable cup options.
He also pointed out that the government’s response to EAC Report on paper cups specifically referenced a recyclable cup. It read: “We understand that a cup is being designed with a minimal plastic content, which could be reprocessed through a regular paper mill.”
An industry insider confirmed to Packaging News this was reference to California-based Smart Planet Technology’s reCUP – which is used by Cup Print.
